Growing up in the woodlands of the Northeast, Mike became captivated by nature. Shortly after graduating from his undergraduate, he pursued his interests in environmental microbiology to study microbial communities within sulfide rich streams of the Frassasi Caves of Italy.
He is currently working towards his Ph.D. in Microbiology, focusing on microbial communities interactions in the peatlands of the Amazon Jungle. Peatlands are one of the top natural sources of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and his work is necessary to predict how greenhouse gas emission from the Amazon will be affected by the change climate.
Outside of the lab, Mike is a plant dad, food enthusiast and Ru Paul's Drag Race Binge-Watcher.
